Singapore Flyer reimagines Time Capsule with immersive Epson projection

Epson has collaborated with the Singapore Flyer to reimagine its Time Capsule, transforming the attraction’s pre-flight experience into a fully immersive journey through Singapore’s past, present and future, brought to life through large-scale projection.

Reopened on August 8, 2025, the refreshed Time Capsule welcomes visitors into a multi-sensory experience that blends projection mapping, interactive storytelling, and spatial sound. 60 Epson 3LCD projectors are deployed throughout the space, transforming walls, floors and ceilings into dynamic visual canvases.

Located at the base of the 165m-tall giant observation wheel, Time Capsule serves as the starting point for the Singapore Flyer journey. Spanning two levels and 10 themed installations, the attraction invites guests to travel through Singapore’s evolution – from its early beginnings as a trading port to a modern global city they see from the skies today.

The experience blends interactive games, 3D projection mapping, AI-driven visuals and multimedia storytelling designed to appeal to both local families and international tourists.

Tricia Cheo, manager, project and customer experience, Singapore Flyer, said: “Time Capsule is where every Singapore Flyer journey begins, so it needed to do more than inform – it had to feel like a living bridge between Singapore’s history, culture and the city visitors see today. Choosing the right projection technology was critical to achieving that. Working closely with Epson’s visual solutions team, we were able to deliver vivid, reliable visuals in every corner of the experience, with precise mapping and calibration that keep visitors immersed in the story without disrupting the flow of their journey.”

The upgraded Time Capsule features more than 60 compact Epson 3LCD projectors, including high-lumen, ultra-lightweight models such as the Epson EB-PU2213B, deployed across rooms with complex surfaces, mirrors and tight installation constraints. Leveraging ultra-short-throw lenses and advanced 3LCD technology, the projectors deliver outstanding colour brightness, sharp detail and uniform imagery, enabling uninterrupted storytelling even in challenging spaces like the Red Dot mirror room.

Behind the refreshed Time Capsule is a multidisciplinary creative and technical team from Untitled Project, which developed the concept in partnership with Singapore Flyer and consultation with local historians. The team combined projection effects, motion-responsive content, AI-driven visuals and interactive games to create spaces that respond dynamically to visitors, supported by Epson’s projection systems as the visual backbone.

Spatial soundscapes and directional audio deepen the sense of immersion, while a companion web experience encourages visitors to continue exploring Singapore’s story beyond the physical attraction.

Cheo added: “Since the refresh, we’ve seen visitors spending more time in Time Capsule, with the full Singapore Flyer journey now taking over 75 minutes to fully appreciate, which tells us the experience is resonating with both local families and international tourists.”
