A flexible flagship: Jyoti Bishnu Prekshagriha Auditorium

Vallect delivers an unparalleled experience for 5,000 visitors at one of the largest auditoriums in northeastern India. Reece Webb reports.

The Jyoti Bishnu Prekshagriha, a brand new multipurpose auditorium in Guwahati, Assam, stands out not just as one of the largest auditoriums
in northeastern India, but as a true masterclass in delivering flexibility at scale.

Opened in August 2025, this massive venue provides an experience fit for its namesake. Named after cultural icons Jyoti Prasad Agarvala and Bishnu Prasad Rabha, this venue aims not just to offer a space for cultural events, but a free- flowing space that can cater to political rallies, musical gatherings, and conferences of up to 5,000 attendees. This newly built venue required a technological delivery that not only matched its legacy, but offered flexibility, accessibility, and an unforgettable experience for thousands of visitors. The brief was clear: deliver a world class auditorium that offers visual and audio clarity for visitors inside and outside the venue and deliver fully comprehensive meeting spaces without compromising on quality.

Enter Vallect, an experienced systems integrator with extensive experience in delivering auditoriums. The integrator was selected for this project not just to deliver the audiovisual systems, but also to design the AV system itself as well as the broadcast and IT backbone.

Deep Goswami took the lead as project manager for the delivery of this project, working alongside a skilled design and installation team to provide a full turnkey solution for the client.

Deep says: “This is an EPC based contract. We had a tender that was not finalised, but we had the DBR. Based on the DBR, we had to design the system, which was a very complex part of this project. Our back-end team helped us so much. They did a fantastic job designing the system; the entire design was carried out in-house.”

He continues: “The client wanted deliverables. They wanted to have a versatile auditorium that is not just used for cultural events and political programmes, but also light musical concerts or dramas. Any event of any complexity had to be catered for, so the priority was versatility. They also wanted uniform sound from the audio system. To make this happen, we had to achieve 110 dB throughout the entire auditorium, from the first row to the last.”

Walking into the gigantic auditorium space, visitors are greeted by an LG P 2.5 indoor active LED videowall, boasting 15500 nits of brightness and a resolution of 3,840 x 2,112.

A similar display is featured outside the venue itself, providing additional viewing for visitors when the auditorium has reached capacity.

“This auditorium now delivers a far more impactful visual experience,” says Deep, “there are so many programmes happening in this auditorium, and the impactful visuals have been a massive bonus. Through the entire seating area, we have 16 Sony 85-in 4K UHD displays that are hung from the ceiling. This is due to the sheer scale of the auditorium; the stage may not be visible from every part of the seating area. To overcome this, we placed these 16 displays, suspended from the ceiling, around the venue which is quite unique.”

With clear visuals delivered throughout the venue, Vallect turned its attention to the sound system. With the requirement to achieve 110 dB throughout the entire space, the integrator delivered a Bose sound system which fills the entire hall with sound, matching the energy and intensity of the 5,000 strong crowd.

Deep continues: “This system was primarily designed with Bose in mind. We originally designed the system with front-fill speakers hanging from the stage areas, and we also incorporated loudspeakers and delay speakers. However, the client asked us to remove the surrounding speakers, as they wanted the system to be operated entirely from the front of house. We reevaluated this and delivered the system, working closely with Bose who proposed the SM series to us.

“Right now, we are using the ShowMatch series of speakers and we are using three array speakers with ten speakers in each stack. These are carefully suspended from the ceiling and distribute the sound effectively around the auditorium.”

Vallect delivered a plethora of Bose surface mount speakers throughout the main auditorium, specifying a mix of S1 Pro, SM5, SM10,and SM20 loudspeakers loudspeakers supported by SMS 118 subwoofers and IZA190HZ Class D amplifiers. To reinforce the sound system, Vallect also provided ElectroVoice monitors.

The flexibility of the venue extended down to the microphones that are on offer for presenters, with a plethora of Sennheiser microphones that offer versatility for the ever changing event environment at Jyoti Bishnu Auditorium. EW-D handheld microphones, EW-D lavalier microphones, and wireless headset microphones are all on hand to cater to the ever evolving needs of on-stage presenters, be they on stage for a presentation, political rally, or a musical event.

Deep adds: “We have used instrumental mics, cordless, lapels, everything, reflecting the full flexibility and versatility that we needed to provide. We have every option for every kind of requirement.”

Real-time interpretation is also supported in the auditorium through Lingua ID Mike interpreter desks and HS20 headsets, backed up by the Televic Plixus AE-R Dante audio engine and Confero Advanced Audio software.

Wrapping up the audio segment is Sennheiser’s MobileConnect assistive listening system, providing comprehensive coverage for visitors who are hard of hearing.
Vallect supplied 11 Lumens VC-A61P PTZ cameras throughout the space, combined with a Blackmagic presentation system to deliver remote visuals outside the venue and online.

“We have a broadcasting system here, using Blackmagic for the video switching,” says Deep. “We have multiple inputs and outputs, giving us a combined capability. For the people outside the venue, viewing the exterior LED wall, they can see what is going on inside.

“We used 11 PTZ cameras for the hall, covering every inch of the space within the auditorium. This can be broadcast across multiple channels, to the LED wall, or through the digital signage in the space.”

Meticulous meetings

While the auditorium is undoubtedly the jewel in the crown of this project, the venue is also outfitted with a 160-person meeting room and two identical conferencing spaces.

The 160 person meeting room contains 24 Bose FS4CE loudspeakers, supported by two P2600A amplifiers and an EX-1280 audio DSP. Much like the main auditorium, a mix of wireless handheld, lavalier microphones, and wireless headset microphones are available to encourage different presentation styles within the space.

Instead of LED displays, the meeting space uses projection via Digital Projection E-Vision projectors paired with Suvira motorised projection screens. A ScreenBeam wireless presentation system and a PeopleLink digital podium with a built-in switcher and gooseneck microphone support the setup, enabling large-scale meetings without compromising quality.

Quality conferencing

The facility’s two meeting rooms feature an identical build, including 85-in Sony 4K displays, with a Lumens MS-10S 4K videobar for videoconferencing. Tying all these spaces together is
a Kramer control system, which provides comprehensive control of the auditorium’s AVoIP and Dante enabled systems.

“We used the Kramer KCBrain,” explains Deep. “We have already seen that it is operating seamlessly, handling the switching and control of devices. We have used Kramer in multiple projects, and it did not let us down here. For mixing purposes, we used Midas, which is a little unusual in the Indian market. This was a request from the client, so we used the Midas stage box and mixer.”

Through the design process, installation and handover, Vallect spent a total of a year and a half on the project, but designing and delivering a system that is not only fit for purpose but has consistently reached maximum capacity since launch.

Deep adds: “We were not just limited to AV, we delivered integrated turnkey building technology solutions like extra low voltage, stage lighting, building technology solutions, fire alarm, and public address, as well as IT services which added to the project timeline.

“The biggest challenge for us was the installation itself. We used very heavy equipment which had to be installed carefully and safely within the time frame, which proved to be
a challenge. We were operating at 26m up, so we had to hang and install equipment very carefully. Meeting the deadline and respecting the aesthetics of the auditorium was a challenge which we met.”

Ultimately, Vallect delivered this project on time in August 2025, balancing the precise requirements of the client and handing over a project that is fit for the large-scale events of the future.

“The proudest moment for us came when the system became operational for the first time,” says Deep. “The Minister of Home Affairs, Amit Shah along with State Chief Minister, Dr Hemanta Biswa inaugurated and addressed the people from our podium. This felt like a moment of self-appreciation to hear how great the system sounds and how amazing it looked. The auditorium was completely packed, so seeing a system we designed and delivered perform for 7,000 people was phenomenal.

“We are blessed to have an excellent team on the design and operations side; they do an amazing job. This is a flagship project for us, a truly one-of-akind for this side of the country,
there’s nothing bigger on the east side of the country. It was an excellent project to work on. Since the project was inaugurated, there have been so many functions happening here, every couple of weeks there’s a huge event happening in this space so we couldn’t be happier.”
